Wesley vs Shrewsbury

Match report written by Tim Cundall;
Today we played Shrewsbury College at Agar’s Plough. It was another sunny day and our warm-up was once again filled with energy. Shrewsbury won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening batsmen complemented each other extremely well as they mixed aggressive shot making with conservative batting.
At the first drinks break we found ourselves struggling as we were yet to take a wicket and their opening batsman was already on 85. Soon after bringing up his 100 we were able to successfully stem the flow of runs. Wickets to Adam, Tim, Saksham,
and Paddy meant Shrewsbury finished on 4/320 off their 50 overs.
Shrewsbury’s line-up contained 5 left arm spinners and only 3 overs of pace were bowled throughout our innings. As a result of this there was never much pace on the ball. A good innings from Kieran was followed up by a brilliant 8th wicket partnership between Dylan and Brayden, in which Dylan reached a fine 50.
Unfortunately, a late flurry of wickets meant that we were bowled out for just under 200.
Having never played against so much spin before, this was an opportunity for everyone to learn techniques to counter spin. Dylan demonstrated the importance of moving your feet, which is something that we will all try to do in the future. Additionally, three run-outs were relatively costly, so communication is also something that we will try to work on. Next up is our last match in the Skills Cup against Grey School, SA.
